Kroc suggested franchising the restaurant but the brothers were not ready to take on the burden. Kroc volunteered to do this for them and opened his first franchise in Des Plaines Illinois in 1955, on this day he also incorporated the company.

Kroc grew the company slowly at first, but by 1959 there were already 101 locations. The 1960s saw great success in the company. The golden arches were introduced in 1962 and in 1963 Ronald McDonald was introduced. Skillful marketing has been the essence of McDonald’s success. Today McDonald's is not only known in the United States but worldwide.
